I have been writing sporadically on Substack for three years. My original intention when I started there was to make Substack a format for my once a month newsletters. I have strayed from the goal along the way and made it a long form blogging project. I have also failed to be consistent with my writing schedule and posting. Three years later I am feeling restless again but not without cause.
Reasons to Return TO WORDPRESS
The Substack platform started as a beautiful place for long form essays and writing. Three years ago it was a pleasantly uncluttered place to write. It is not that anymore. The population has grown and the advertising of podcasts, courses in how to grow your platform and learn how to beat the algorithm, etc… (remind you of youtube a little?) began to spring up all over the place.
This was all followed by the loud political and religious opinions that kept popping up as suggestions in my feed. I left Facebook about 6 years ago and I finally left Instagram in January of this year so that I could quiet those things in my life. It has all followed us to Substack now and I need a quiet place to write again.
The whole reason I began blogging about 20+ years ago was for my little circle of family and friends and that is still mostly who reads what I have to say now. Blogging on WordPress gives me a peaceful stable place to share.
What to Expect
As a Christian I feel like there are things I can share to encourage others in their walk with Christ. I plan to share those things along with recipes, books I am reading, life adventures, and my new life as an empty nester starting in August.
- I read a lot of nonfiction Christian books and have started reading more classic literature these days. I will still have the occasional book review for Crossway or Baker Books coming your way.
- My cooking habits have changed a lot with our aging dietary needs so I can share what is working for us to keep us fit as a fiddle. I will also be updating some old recipes you might already be enjoying.
- There is a lot more travel in our lives these days with adult children and aging parents being scattered around the country. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about all the changes but I quite like where life is taking us.
SURPRISE!!!
I am also going back to school… yes, another degree… at nearly 60 years old! I am now officially a Southwesterner (SWBTS) and will be studying for a Master’s degree in Theological Studies. My husband and daughter have been super encouraging in this endeavor of more schooling. I am so excited but also a little nervous. It has been awhile since I have done formal schooling.
I am hoping to begin to share with you some self-published .pdf devotional and study booklets for you all to enjoy. I am hoping that my time in seminary will better equip me to be able to share more content for spiritual growth.
Moving Forward
I am taking this opportunity to move back to my original plan of writing here and posting a once-a-month letter on Substack. I will keep a presence on both platforms. I will try to make it easy for you to find what you want to read from both places.
I am so glad you are here and I look forward to connecting with you. Take a second to scroll down to subscribe so you don’t miss a post moving forward. Welcome and talk to you soon!
Long Live the Bloggers of the World!
