Let me introduce you to Andrew Peterson. He is a long time singer/songwriter who has several albums and a yearly Christmas program. He lives in Nashville, TN. He is also the author of a series called the Wingfeather Saga. He starts his Resurrection Letters album tour tonight in Belton, TX. I tell you that because his tour starts at my daughter’s college. I thought that was cool. You can learn more about Andrew and his current tour from his website. If he shows up in your neck of the woods please take the time to go hear him.
The book he published a few months ago is a fantastic book about his thoughts on Christianity and creativity. It is an autobiographical book that is more like sitting down with a friend over coffee. That friend might actually be sitting at the piano while you chat. He shares about inspiration in his life, his early start in the music industry, and his love for fantasy fiction that inspired him to write books for children. The closing chapter gives a list of practical things to think through in the creative process but the rest of the book is very personable, friendly, and chatty. Don’t misunderstand me, the last chapter is too but with bullet points to close it all out for those who like the lists… like me.

He encourages all Christians to seek out creative endeavors. Creativity is not limited to just some. We serve a creative God and his people should be obedient to follow Him into a creative life. We don’t all have to be poets, songwriters, or authors but there is something we can do… someone we can be… that follows God’s leading to bring light into a dark world. Andrew is honest about his struggles and journey as he learns how to serve God more creatively. He shares about his family and friends and a few endeavors to build community along the way. He talks a lot about the community of faith.

I encourage you to search for his music on YouTube or other places you might listen to music. I enjoyed his Behold the Lamb album during the Christmas season this year for the first time. If you want to be encouraged in your creative walk with God I encourage you to pick this book up for yourself. I think you will find a friend in Andrew on this journey to be more like the Father. He is truly a kindred spirit in the family of faith in Christ.

I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars and thank BH Publishing for providing it for me to read. They do not require me to read or write a review. I just feel the world needs this book and more like it. I hope you will take a deeper look. I don’t think you will regret it one bit.
