Growing Together by Melissa B. Kruger

I really loved the message of this book! It is a very needed message in a time when people are feeling isolated in our churches. This book is about mentoring and how that looks in a church. Mentoring is the word we use for older or more experienced individuals step in to help those who are younger or less experienced in something. This book is a guide to building those connections within your church and community. Melissa Kruger takes a very biblical approach to encourage older women to connect with younger women and for younger women to seek out those older women to learn what it is to be a Christian over a lifetime. Something wonderful happens when we connect Christians who have been serving the Lord for many years with new Christians. It builds our churches in magnificent ways.

Melissa starts by showing us how we really do need each other and where these principles are found in the Bible. God’s word is our guide to making those mentoring connections to help us through life’s ups and downs. As we move through the different stages of our lives it is good to have others who have already been through similar things to help guide us through it.

This book is a handbook. Kruger has designed a book that can be read individually or shared corporately within your women’s ministry or small groups. When we open up our lives to others great things can happen with the relationships in your circle of women. It helps us to build maturity as we grow in God through these connections. It is important to share our lives in a variety of ways. Through mentoring, women can connect to encourage one another in service, prayer, ministry, and discernment. It lends wisdom to parenting, family, friendships, and handling daily life with joy, maturity, and faith.

God ordained the church for our benefit. We were never meant to walk through life alone. We are to come alongside each other to help each other bear burdens, learn ways to connect with God from one another, and celebrate the joys of this life together.

If you are looking for a way to build your women’s ministry to include mentoring or just encourage the women around you this is the book for you. I encourage you to read this and then put it into action in your congregation, Bible study groups, women’s ministry, small groups and generational friendships. It will bless you, your family, your church and your entire community!

I received a digital copy of this book from Crossway but was under no obligation to read or review it. I have chosen to review it of my own volition and it is such a needed and wonderful book for today’s church women as we seek to connect and build each other for His glory.
