My Basic Granola Recipe

, , , ,

I am trying to make things more modern here… I promise! So, I jumped online yesterday and found a code… a shortcode actually, that lets me put up a recipe that YOU can print. I am still trying to figure out how to add a photo to the printable but until I do at least you can print something if you like. You really can teach this old dog some new tricks. LOL It helps that I learned how to use html back in the early 2000s. Here is my first attempt. Please let me know if you run into any glitches.

Basic Granola Recipe

  • Servings: about 12 servings
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

This is a basic oatmeal, nuts, seed, and fruit style granola. It is gluten free if you use gluten free oats

When I make homemade yogurt I make this granola to enjoy with it. You can change the nuts and seeds to suit your taste. You can also make different fruit syrups to change the flavors of the granola. This is my standard recipe and we prefer craisins to raisins and the kids like it more chunky with lots of nuts and seeds but you can make it more basic by leaving some things out if you have nut allergies or just don’t like something. Change up the dried fruit if you like apricot or blueberries or something else. The sky is the limit with this one.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs (10 cups) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup craisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnut or pecans
  • 1/2 cup chopped pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine oats, dried fruit, nuts, seeds, salt, cinnamon, honey (drizzle in), and mix well.
  3. In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring sugar and water to a boil and boil for 1 minute.
  4. Add butter to saucepan in small pieces and whisk until smooth.
  5. Pour mixture over oats and stir until mixed.
  6. Transfer to 2 lightly sprayed or oiled baking dish OR I use cookie sheets lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Stir around the edges to keep them from cooking faster as it bakes.
  9. Turn off oven and leave granola in oven for 1 1/2 hours or until oven has cooled. It should be dry and chunky. You can store it in an airtight container or Ziplock style bag.
  10. Serve with milk, half and half, or plain yogurt.
  11. * Tip: The honey is intended to be mixed in to form small sections of chunky oats. Drizzle it rather than adding it all at once so it spreads throughout.
